About Russell Bede
Mission Statement
The mission of Russell Bede School is to teach and re-mediate young students who are having difficulty succeeding in a regular education classroom. As soon as feasible, students return to mainstream education with the capabilities required to be successful.
Teaching and remediation includes academic skill development, promoting appropriate learning behaviors, active learning, and independent learning skills.
Students Served
Russell Bede School targets students in grades one through six because early intervention provides the best chance for success. We serve students who have average to above average ability, but are challenged by communication difficulties, language-related learning problems or have alternative learning styles. Because we enroll children without a history of severe behavioral problems, teachers can focus on instruction and students can focus on learning.
Our students may or may not have been determined eligible for special education services.
Some of the disabilities we work with include:
- Dyslexia
- Dysphasia
- Receptive language disorders
- Expressive language disorders
- Auditory processing disorders
- Other speech and language difficulties
- Social pragmatics difficulties
Certifications and Accreditations
Russell Bede is a private, non-profit school and our curriculum follows State Department of Education standards. The principal and all classroom teachers are fully credentialed through the State Department of Education, and two teachers also hold credentials in speech and language therapy as well.
In addition, the principal and all classroom teachers have completed a full week’s training in the nationally-acclaimed Mel Levine “Schools Attuned” Program. This program offers a system of neurodevelopmentally-based tools for understanding and helping students with learning differences, and has provided us with a model which we use to create successful learning experiences for our students.
Standardized Testing
Russell Bede School administers the Woodcock-Johnson achievement testing each Spring to measure growth. Over time, average growth has been approximately a grade and a half per calendar year. *
